Mike Escamilla

attended the ASR trade show in San Diego last weekend, where he was showing-off his new signature backpack from Clive, which looks awesome! He was also showing-off his Dave Osato signature golf balls to everyone. Check out BMX Online
, where he has a pretty extensive interview about the Samurai. Mike's shooting teaser ads this week for his next etnies pro shoe, the Rooftop 3 (due out in April), as well as coming up with new Spring 2005 colorways. Mikes getting ready to head down to New Zealand for their version of the X Games. HeҒll also being doing a road trip while down there. Besides all this, Mike is sick of being hurt and wants to ride. Hes been surfing, though, which has been keeping him somewhat active.

Taj Mihelich
has been consumed with work at T1 these last couple of weeks. With the New Year comes some new projects and new plans, so heҒs had that to deal with
and hopes to catch up with things by the end of the week and get back to riding. Taj is hopefully going to be working on an etnies ad pretty soon.

Ruben Alcantara
has been home in Spain for the last month-and-a-half. Hes due back in the U.S. in mid-February. Ruben has plenty of travel planned for 2004, with the etnies Backyard Jam in April, a Fly Bikes road trip in March and plenty of other fun stuff thatҒs going to take lots of time on a plane. Ruben has been working on his signature T1 frame that has some very unique and original ideas that only he and a few others know about (top secret). Ride
magazine's Jeff Zielinski is heading out to Spain on February 2 to get an interview with Ruben. Keep an eye out for it.

Joe Rich
has been cooped up in his apartment for a while now working on the T1 video. In his own words, "Ive become a hermit" scanning pictures for both the vid and a book that heҒs doing. Hes also been playing with various little effects for the vid and basically doing all-nighters getting work done. As far as riding goes, Joe has been riding more and more vert over at the Gutes ramp with etnies teammate Sandy Carson and good friend / T1 rider Paul Buchanan. Joe also went to the Texas Ramp Ranch, where he hasnҒt been for a while and enjoyed a box jump sesh (which is something else he hasnt done for a while). Joe's also been working on some new spine tricks.
The T1 ramp hosted the new Mutiny Bikes video this past weekend. With a projection screen in place, all in attendance had fun and enjoyed the vid.

John Heaton
had the pleasure of going to a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game. They won, and he was stoked! John has been playing plenty of pond hockey himself with friends on a frozen lake. John rode a local skatepark near Toronto before heading down to Appleton, Wisconsin for a demo that etnies teammate Dave Freimuth was putting on at the new Area 51 Skatepark. It was sort of a grand opening demo kinda thing with the likes of Dave Osato, Chad Degroot and Brian Kachinski. John also played pond hockey in Appleton with all the same guys and some locals.

Dave Freimuth
has been busy organizing the new Area 51 demo that happened this past weekend with Chad Degroot and Dave Osato. Etnies teammate John Heaton also came to town for the festivities. All the above guys enjoyed a hockey game on Friday out on a frozen lake. At the demo, competitors in the Aspire video contest (in which amateur video producers make video parts to compete against each other) showed-off their videos. A full video will be made from some of the best entries. The new Baco video, Baco 10
, was also premiered. Etnies sponsored the demo with lots of free goodies to the kids.

Nate Wessel
just got back from about a week-and-a-half up in Vancouver working on MacNeil bikes / Jay MironҒs warehouse ramps, as well as the ramps that Dave Osato and etnies Jason Enns have been working on. Nate is back in the Cleveland, Ohio area freezing his balls off and riding at both of the Chenga skateparks. Nate got some new snowboarding boots courtesy of ThirtyTwo (etnies snowboarding boot brand) and is planning on hitting-up the slopes here pretty quick.

Jason Enns
is home in Vancouver bumming because the weather hasnt been so hot lately, which is not too conducive to an outdoor sport like BMX. Thus, it has been pretty hard to shed his beer gut. Jason has been working hard on the indoor ramps that he and good friend Dave Osato have been working on for a little while now. Etnies teammate Nate Wessel was in town to help out with some of the more intricate parts that were hard to figure out (Nate is the resident BMX park-building bad-ass). Jason has been working on his new house a bunch, and raising the height of the fence to keep his dogs in.

Edwin Delarosa
has been apartment hunting lately, looking for his own space after getting back from Puerto Rico with the Fit Bikes team. They were down there filming the new Fit Bikes vacation video. Edwin has been freezing at home in New York, so he and some friends are heading out to California to enjoy some better weather.

Garrett Byrnes
headed home to New Jersey from a week-long trip to Austin, only to be greeted by snow, thus any outdoor riding has been shut down. Garrett goes to the doctor this week to see if he is going to have to get surgery on his not-so-bad-feeling wrist.

Josh Stricker
has been stranded down in Austin for the last two-and-a-half weeks due to his ride home to New York leaving at short notice. He hasnҒt been complaining though, the weather at home in NY is crap and dumping snow, so hes been enjoying plenty of outdoor riding with all the great street, trails and ditches in Austin. Josh hasnҒt had to touch one skatepark yet in his whole time there (not even the T1 ramp). He's also getting plenty of filming done, but he does plan on doing some other types of riding, which just may include some parks, before heading home on February 3.

Mike Escamilla

s backside is still out of commission and is not allowing him to do any riding. He did get himself a surfboard this week (actually, two), but due to his rear-end"troubles, Mike hasnҒt tried the board out yet cuz it hurts too much trying to learn something new when youre injured. He has been filling out a daily diary in preparation for a book heҒs writing about his travels and exploits. Mike got some Dave Osato Samurai signature balls
made, since they're both such big golf fans. He also did an interview for the Fuel TV channel for a show that covers top ten riders in alternative sports. Rooftop reads? Yep. Check out a book review Mike wrote on www.bmxonline.com

Taj Mihelich
has, as usual, been working hard at T1 in Austin. To add some extra work this week, he helped etnies / T1 teammate Joe Rich retrieve pictures and other info from Joes computer that he previously thought were lost. Taj bought a retrieval program that restored a lot of the content. Whew! Taj has once again been getting more into vert riding at the Gutes ramp. He attended the new T1 Art Directors art show at a gallery downtown that had a huge BMX rider turnout. Taj has had plenty of people to ride with this week. Whether it be at the T1 ramp or the 9th Street trails, there are a lot of visiting riders right now in Austin, including etnies riders Adam Baker and Josh Stricker, as well as the usual hometown riders.

Ruben Alcantara
is still home in Spain enjoying family time as well as hanging out with friends and getting in plenty of riding. He has also been surfing a bunch and riding
his motorcycle--being careful not to open up the stitches in his head he received a couple of weeks ago from a motor scooter accident in the Alps.

Joe Rich
was bummed for a while that he had lost all the work on his computer (he also thought it was funny in a weird twisted kinda way)--pictures, files, footage, etc., but thanks to a retrieval program that Taj Mihelich got ahold of, Joe was able to get the majority of his data back. Joe has been riding with all the usual Austin locals, as well as the many visitors in Austin right now. Whether it be at the T1 ramp, 9th Street trails or at GuteҒs vert ramp, Joe has been getting plenty of saddle time in.

John Heaton
has been home in Toronto for the last couple of weeks freezing his ass off. He has enjoyed playing hockey a couple of times a week with friends. Because of somewhat crappy
weather, John has had to drive a couple of hours to go ride the nearest skatepark. He has been going about two or three times a week just to get his riding fix. John has also been going down to the X Dreams skatepark in New York to do some riding.

Nate Wessel
spent time at home with his family in Cleveland since returning from Florida, where he spent Christmas with his girl. Hes been shooting footage for a new Chenga skatepark video coming soon. Nate left on Monday to fly to Vancouver to help his buddy Jay Miron build his warehouse ramps, as well as help Dave Osato get his garage-style ramps done. Nate may be heading out to Los Angeles to attend a skatepark convention in Long Beach at the end of January.

Jason Enns
is home in Vancouver trying to get some riding sessions in. They had two feet of snow up there, which really put a damper on things. Jason said that he somehow got stuck for two hours in his driveway before snowplows came to the rescue, allowing him to leave. Jason has been working on some indoor ramps that he and his good friend Dave Osato have been building. Etnies teammate Nate Wessel is on his way up to Vancouver to help with some of the more intricate parts of the construction. Jason has also been watching plenty of The Price Is Right
.

Sandy Carson
is back home in Austin after doing a road trip out to California, where he spent Christmas with his girlfriendҒs mom down in Oceanside. As always, hes working hard on Dig BMX
magazine, as well as riding with all the folks in Austin right now. He has also been going to art shows and seeing some bands play.

Edwin Delarosa
is currently down in Puerto Rico filming for the next 411 / Fit Bikes vacation-style video that is a follow-up of the Barcelona video. Edwin is down
there with etnies B team rider Justin Inman, as well as the rest of the Fit team. Etnies teammate Dave Freimuth is also coincidently down there. Edwin is due home on Thursday, January 15. Check out his part in the new Ainmal bikes video.

Dave Freimuth
is currently down in Puerto Rico coincidently at the same time as Fit bikes and etnies teammate Edwin Delarosa. Dave is there with his riding buddy and good friend Brian Kachinski. HeҒs due home on Monday, January 12 (but if things go good, he may stay longer). Check out the new Area 51 skatepark at www.Area51skatepark.com

Garrett Byrnes
is currently in Austin hanging-out with his bosses (and etnies teammates) Joe Rich and Taj Mihelich. He has been riding a bunch down there, going to art shows and just basically enjoying the fruits of doing nothing and having no conceivable agenda.

Mike Escamilla

hung-out at Nixon watches New Year's Eve party up in LA. Hes still out with a broken ass, cuz he didnҒt get it checked out. So, he really doesnt know what is or isnҒt wrong with his bum. All he does know is that he cant sit straight for any short period of time. Mike hung-out with etnies teammate Edwin Delarosa this past weekend on a photo shoot for Edwin's upcoming etnies ads. The Samurai video is selling well and Mike is going to start writing a book about his travels and exploits.

Taj Mihelich
has been getting back into riding vert a little more lately. He has been going over to the GuteҒs ramp (the one he helped raise money to repair a while back). Taj has also been riding the 9th Street trails a bunch, as well as having some weird sessions with some girls who were in town for a Girls of Freestyle tour this past week. There were thirteen girls riding the T1 ramp with
him. He said it was kinda weird being the only dude on deck. Along with riding the ramp, Taj put on a BBQ for the girls. He took a lot of the holiday season off from the office to get some time to himself.

Ruben Alcantara
is still at home in Spain enjoying quality family time. He did go on a short trip to the Alps with some friends, where he also received some stitches in his head from a fall on a scooter. Ruben has been riding his motorcycle quite a bit and gone through three pairs of handlebars from crashing so much on it. In fact, it's being repaired as we speak. Ruben has also been riding his BMX bike quite a lot, lately. He plans to be back in the U.S. in the middle of February.

Joe Rich
spent the tail end of December in Pennsylvania with his family and friends. Just before New Year's, he flew back home to Austin and got in some badly missed saddle time. He was back on his bike riding the 9th Street trails, as well as riding and BBQing with the Girls of Freestyle at the T1 ramp.

Dave Freimuth
spent New Year's Eve at home in Appleton, Wisconsin
freezing his nuts off and enjoying the festivities that go along with New Years. The only saving grace to the cold is that he now has an awesome, brand-new indoor skatepark to ride, Area 51. Dave left for Puerto Rico on Monday, January 5 and plans to be gone for a week.

Edwin Delarosa
spent New Year's Eve in Times Square watching the ball drop with the millions of other revelers. On Friday January 2, Edwin flew out to California to shoot photos for an upcoming etnies ad, which is due out soon. Edwin left Monday January 5 for New
York. He will be home one evening before leaving to Puerto Rico to join the Fit Bikes team to shoot for their next video that will be produced by 411.

Nate Wessel
spent Christmas down in Florida with his girl, and for New Year's Eve, he was back home to Cleveland to hang with family and friends. Nate has been filming for a Chenga World video that should be out mid-year. He also helped out his favorite band and good friends Mushroom Head by hooking them up with some footage for a video they are working on. So, look out for Wessel to be on MTV in the near future. Nate is also planning on heading up to Vancouver to help Jay Miron put some bowl corners in his warehouse ramp.

Brian Terada

gets his driver's license back in about ten days, which will be a blessing, because hes been getting cabin fever up there in Camarillo. Brian did come down to shoot photos with etnies teammate Edwin Delarosa in the LA area this past weekend. Besides getting some riding in, Brian has been working at the bike store in Camarillo, building bikes and doing repairs.

Josh Stricker
has been out in Southern California for the last two weeks to hang with his family and friends, enjoying some of the nice weather as well as seeing his good friends for New Year's. Josh headed out to Austin on Monday, January 5, where he will be for the next two or so weeks, depending on how much of a good time he has.

Garrett Byrnes
was at home in New Jersey for New Year's, hanging with family and enjoying some rest and relaxation. HeҒs been planning a trip down to Austin for a while and had previously thought about jumping on a train to check things out down that route. But, after putting a little more effort into investigating what all it would involve, he figured it might just be better to drive. Garrett has also been riding a local indoor park near his house against doctor's wishes (he still has a broken wrist).

Weekly BMX Team Report 12-29-03

Mike Escamilla

did a show for a brand-new bike/skate/surf/snow store called Nine Star in west Los Angeles on Saturday, December 18 with a few good friends, Mike Ardelean, Rich Hirsch and Mike Saavedra. Rooftop laid it down for the crowd and concluded the show with an ass-breaking crash that left him on the floor for the next hour or so. He gave out the new Samurai video to the crowd and also had two commercials
that he recorded, which are airing on LAs KROQ. Mike spent Christmas at home with his wife and daughter Haley and had a party on Christmas day with some close friends. Mike is currently laid-up with a broken ass.

Taj Mihelich
has been taking it as easy as he can during the holiday season (which is not very easy by most peoples' standards). T1 has been closed for business until January 2, so Taj has been riding quite a bit at the 9th street trails, as well as the T1 ramp. He had good friends Steve-O and Kevin Porter to ride with this past week. Taj also scored one side of a two-sided poster in the new March Issue of Ride BMX.

Ruben Alcantara

has been back in Spain for the last couple of weeks and will stay there until mid-February. HeҒs been enjoying family time as well as spending time with the friends he doesnt get to see while traveling. Ruben just recently purchased a motorcycle and says that "itҒs not too hard to ride." He claims to already be jumping thirty-foot double sets and says that its giving him the balls to try bigger stuff on his BMX bike.

Joe Rich
has been riding a bunch prior to the holiday season and has also been riding his motorcycle with friends
(etnies teammate Sandy Carson tried riding it for his first time). Joe went back to Pennsylvania to spend the holidays with his family, as well as to see friends. He also has one side of a two-sided poster in the new March issue of Ride BMX.

John Heaton
played hockey a couple of times this week. He also watched golf on TV and soooo badly wanted to actually be playing. John went to St. Thomas near London Ontario to ride the skatepark a few times to get his fill of riding for the week. He got his Christmas shopping done with time to spare for the holidays and managed to fit
some partying in his hefty schedule. John also got one more speeding ticket to add to his collection that is going to cost him $300 (Canadian).

Sandy Carson
spent the holiday season on a road trip with his girl out here in So Cal and spent time with her family for Christmas down in Oceanside. Along the way, they made stops at some riding and scenic hot-spots in San Francisco and then onto Lake Tahoe to get some snowboarding in. From there, they headed back home to Austin. As always, Sandy has been working on Dig magazine, as well.

Jason Enns
has been in his new house with his girl Portia for a few weeks now and itҒs finally feeling like home. He spent Christmas there enjoying the fruits of his labor. Jason has also been working on some ramps at a new warehouse that his good buddy Dave Osato rented so they have a place to session during the crappier weather times in the year.

Dave Freimuth
spent the holiday season wrapping-up construction on the new Area 51 Skatepark in Appleton, Wisconsin that is now open (check out pics of the park on area51skatepark.com
). Dave has also been staying home in Appleton with his wife Pattie and both of their families (because they both live right there). Also, check out a readers interview with Dave at bmxonline.com.

Josh Stricker
spent the last couple of weeks on a road trip out to California with his friend Sal to spend Christmas with his family. On the way out, the guys made stops in Louisville, Austin, Albuquerque, LA and San Diego to get some riding in. Josh claims the bad weather followed him all the way form the East Coast.

Nate Wessel
spent Christmas down in Florida with his girl Rhonda. They went down to the Florida Keys for a couple of days just to get away. HeҒs also been healing from a swellbow he got at Chenga, which hurt even with an elbow pad on. Nate has a mini-interview coming up in Ride UK about the building of the Seventies warehouse ramps.

You would think that Edwin Delarosa
would have learned his lesson. Just days after paying off a ticket for riding his bike on the sidewalk while coming back from the laundromat, Edwin managed to get another one in the exact same place by the exact same cop. Another $95 down the drain! Shitty! Edwin spent Christmas with his good friend Bob Scerbo down in New Jersey.

Garrett Byrnes
has been riding his bike against doctor's orders. He just recently did a road trip down to Alabama with Cory Martinez and Brian Wizmerski in which they also stopped in Atlanta. Garrett spent Christmas with his family in New Jersey and has quietly been planning a possible train trip for himself down to Austin to hang-out with etnies teammates Taj, Joe and Sandy to escape the crappy weather in Jersey.
