etnies Backyard Jam
Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, August 30, 2005PR - Brighton will host one of Europe's most prestigious BMX competitions as the etnies Backyard Jam (EBYJ) hits the Brighton Centre from 21 - 23 October 2005, ready with a 375 m2 purpose built street course, retail area and Snickers public street course.
Now in its 12th year the etnies Backyard Jam is coming back bigger and better, with riders confirmed from etnies, Federal and Hoffman bikes including Jamie Bestwick, Morgan Wade, Taj Mihelich, Mike Escamilla, Ruben Alcantara, Mike Atiken, Van Homan, Corey Martinez, Bas Keep, Jon Taylor and Sergio Layos to mention but a few. With such a line up and the relaxed atmosphere the EBYJ is famous for, riders will be pushing themselves in the face of a record prize pool of $40,000 overall.
Friday will see 100 Experts battle it out in heated qualifiers for the honorable 10 finalist spots in Saturday's Expert final. Following that, 60 Pros will take to the street course for their qualifiers on Saturday, the top 16 of which will come back on Sunday for the highly regarded Pro Final for some fearless, bad-ass action.
If that was not enough, the etnies Highest Air and the Snickers Best Trick contests on Saturday and Sunday respectively will provide constant action for the crowd, following Friday's world record attempt, as Snickers presents the UK's first Highest Bunny Hop contest.
This year more BMX enthusiasts can experience this world-class event as the Brighton Centre offers tiered seating to 3,000 spectators. There is a separate public street course strip for four persons at time to experience BMXing for themselves. All equipment and guidance is provided and Pro riders including Jon Taylor will intermittently be on hand to offer personal advice. In previous years the event has sold out quickly so log on to backyardjam.com today to book your tickets and get the latest updates.
The etnies Backyard Jam in association with Snickers and Primo will be held at the Brighton Centre 21 - 23 October 2005. Opening times: 10 am - 7 pm. Ticket prices pre booked / on the door: Fri £6 / £8, Sat £8 / £10 and Sun £10 / £12. Please Note: There is no access with bikes for the public into the venue.
BMX or FMX?
Posted by: Cropley | Monday, August 29, 2005
- ZOOOOMMMMM in. FMX huh?
I thought Jamie Bestwick won the Dew Tour in Portland for kicking ass on the vert ramp, but the trophy clearly says "2005 Freestyle Motocross Champi... Portland, OR". Does Bestwick have some new motocross skills that we didn't know about or are the Dew people high on their own product?
Totally off topic - Have you ever wondered what character your favorite BMX star would play if he was a movie star? That very question has kept me awake in bed pondering for years until I found this list today on woozybmx (you have to find the list yourself because I can't link to it.... 19-08-2005), so now I know and can die happy. Find out what character in a movie you would be here. I'm not really sure why, but Jamie Bestwick would play Mrs. Doubtfire.
Passed Out Wookies
Posted by: Cropley | Friday, August 26, 2005
- Found this Wook passed out in the back yard.
Don't know what a Wookie is? Neither did I, until I found this Wookie web site and realized that real life Wookies live, smell bad, get loaded, and pass out among us everyday.
Bestwick Wins Dew Tour Stop 3
Posted by: Cropley | Monday, August 22, 2005Once again Jamie Bestwick seals the deal in his first run and wins the Dew Tour stop 3 finals with some of the biggest airs (13+ ft. out of the pipe), 540’s and a tailwhip flair over the channel. Maybe next time he should just skip the first run to give everyone else a fighting chance? Yeah right, Jamie is now in second place for the tour and closing in fast; he wants that Dew championship bad. Morgan Wade kicked ass and took sixth place in park. The next round is just a few weeks away, September 8-11, in San Jose, Ca. Congrats to Jamie on the win and Morgan on sixth.

Bestwick Wins Two Gold Medals!
Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, August 9, 2005As if you don't already know, Jamie Bestwick won BMX Vert gold at X Games this weekend. Jamie's flair-whip mixed with the rest of his perfect first run could have easily won him the gold, but Jamie went out and put on another huge show for the millions watching, besting his first run score with an even bigger and better second run.
Jamie dominated all aspects of vert this weekend, earning his second gold medal of the Games with a double tailwhip flair in Vert Best Trick. If you didn't see it in person or on TV, check the video evidence and the etnies X Games BMX Photo Gallery.
Rooftop Sets New World Record!
Posted by: Cropley | Thursday, August 4, 2005Yesterday morning Rooftop jumped 62’2" on the Mega Ramp at X Games and threw in a backflip for good measure, giving him the world record for longest backflip on a BMX bike, everrrrr!!!! He also got the world record for longest 360 too. No photos of the actual jump yet, but as soon as I get them you know they will be right up here.

X Games Park and Dirt Course
Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, August 3, 2005Morgan Wade was out practicing on the Park course earlier and was killing everything. The course is sick and has tons of possibilities. I'm posting this from the riders lounge outside the Home Depot Center, the place is bad ass, it has video games, free smoothies, big screens, A/C, and most importantly...wireless internet! More photos and updates to come soon....
