BMX Team Report!
Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, January 31, 2007Ruben Alcantara has been home in Spain riding a bunch and finishing up some clips for "Grounded," the follow up DVD to "Forward." Last week Ruben went on a family vacation up in the mountains above Malaga and had a real fun, relaxing time. Now back at home, Ruben and friends have been working on some dirt jumps as well as out street riding around town. Check Ruben's T1 bike check.
Jamie Bestwick and wife Kerry and son Samuel, have been out in State College, PA enjoying some time away from the UK. Jamie has been riding there readying himself to come out to California to wrap up shooting for the new etnies BMX DVD which he did this past weekend. Once he’s done filming, Jamie will be filming for FUEL TV’s "Daily Habit" TV show as well as hosting another FUEL show. Next week Jamie will be going to Las Vegas to do some TV work for NBC and the Dew Tour for the coming season. Jamie has Levi’s as his new Jean sponsor.

- Chase "Hawk" by Taj
Taj Mihelich…from the man himself:
I’ve been hanging around the T1 ramp while Ryan Corrigan, Tom and Chris Hallman are out there working on it. They are tearing down all the little old stuff and then going to build the backyard jam jump box out there. A jump box should be fun for sure. Just back from the Odyssey trip that really ended up kinda falling apart due to injuries. Matt Beringer and Mike Aitken didn't come. Aaron Ross was sick so he didn't come. Gary Young fell on a rail and cracked his skull in 3 places on the first day. It was gnarly with blood coming out of his ears and stuff. Chase Hawk broke his wrist and I hurt my back so we both went home early.
Now I'm chilling in Austin. My back is shitty, but each time I hurt it it’s less bad than the last time. Just doing lots of exercises from the doctor and trying to remember to take it easy. Also got some prototype Lumberjack bars from Odyssey with an 8.25 in rise to see if that helps with a more upright riding position. Today I hung out at T1 and cleaned up and changed all the broken light bulbs for something to do. Been drawing little pictures a bunch. Nothing too deep or meaningful, but fun stuff. Also read "The Life of Pi" by Yan Martel and "The Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut.
Taj has been on a reading binge since he’s been hurt I guess. Also check out Taj's Flickr page for some killer photos and drawings.

- Morgan & Natalie shrinkage
Morgan Wade has been lying low, taking things a little easy and enjoying time hanging out in Tyler, TX with his family and girl Natalie. This past week Natalie and Morgan went to Dallas to get some riding done. Morgan also rides for Levi’s now too.
Josh Stricker has been out in California for the last month and a half enjoying family and some decent weather. Josh headed back to Austin on Saturday driving his newly purchased car. Josh has a colorway of the Faction shoe coming out springtime, so keep your eyes peeled…can you say leopard print!!!

- The new Cream BMX Mag...nice!
Joe Rich, as always, has been keeping Terrible 1 running smoothly…there’s all kinds of new plans for the new year, so keep an eye peeled. Joe is currently out in California helping film Jamie Bestwick with Mike Manzoori, who is editing "Grounded." Joe is also helping Manzoori with editing his own part as well as getting some riding done himself. This past week Joe got to ride with Heath Pinter and Ryan "Biz" Jordan out at Heath Pinter’s trails. Heath’s trails are at a friend’s house who plays football for the Patriots. Cory Nastazio showed up but wasn’t riding. Joe also got to ride the etnies skatepark. Joe heads home to Austin on Tuesday to resume his business running life as well as help wrap up the new ramps being built out back which he is very excited about
Sergio Layos came back from the Simple Session in Estonia where he had a fun time and rode awesome. He's been at home riding as well as getting all his tax paperwork in order because it’s that time of year. This past weekend Sergio went up to Burgos to ride an indoor park with some friends. He got back Saturday, and on Sunday left for New Zealand for two weeks to do the X Air contest and attend the Fly Bikes video premier also. While in New Zealand, Sergio will be doing some surfing as well as a little trip. Keep an eye out for a Sergio Layos colorway of an etnies shoe come springtime.
Rooftop's Roadtrip - Utah, Boarding, Sledding and a Vegas Bachelor Party
Posted by: Mike Escamilla | Tuesday, January 30, 2007Last week I headed up to Utah with Heath Pinter to snow mobile and snowboard with Mike Aitken and Fuzzy. We spent a few days snowboarding around, then loaded the sleds up and headed out. About six miles out Fuzzy drove his sled of a bump and down into a ditch which sent him flying and busting the A arm of his sled. We got lucky that fuzzy didn’t get too hurt. We spent the next few hours rigging his sled up so we could get it back to the trailer.
On the drive back from Salt Lake, we stopped in Brian Head, Utah, stayed the night at our buddy Vinnie’s, watched some football and shot some guns. We then headed to Vegas for SIA and Bam’s bachelor party. Once we got there me and Heath split. I headed to meet up with Ryan Dunn and heath headed over to Carey Hart’s. We met up later at the joint in the Hard Rock and watched Mike V's band play revolution mother. After a few hectic days in Vegas we headed home for some much needed sleep.

Freimuth's Ohio Trip
Posted by: Dave Freimuth | Tuesday, January 30, 2007
- Me, a nosepick from the subrail into the little quarter at Chenga 2.
John...
I nosepicked the face of the 2x6 probably 6 times, and then when I actually tried to tooth it I missed twice, stuck it once but jumped off, and then pulled it twice in a row. I'm stoked; it's probably one of the best toothpicks I've ever done. I've only done a couple that high, but never precision like that.
Here's a couple photos...they were for the UGP site since they gave me some gas money for our Ohio trip, but I figured you could put 'em up if you like. -Dave

- An "entertainer" at one of the fine Ohio drinkin' holes we visited--this is a self-portrait by the way.

- Catfish saw this tow truck and demanded i take his picture...I call it "jesusfish."

- Brian V alley-oop 270 whip at the Flo
Dustin Session's Estonia @ Simpel Session
Posted by: Dustin Guenther | Monday, January 22, 2007Just wanted to drop a line and a couple pics from Estonia.... It was pretty cold (about 20F) and snowed almost everyday and I don't think I saw the sun once when we were there. Tallinn, the city the comp was held in, is right on the Baltic Sea and has a part of the town that is almost 1000 years old. We went into a pub that was founded in 1643 and dubbed "Estonia's first pub." Along with a lot of the other restaurants and bars in that area, your imagination tends to run wild about what could've and probably has gone down in these places. The bars paint pictures of serving wenches and people eating huge drumsticks...Danny took advantage of all of ‘em.
The comp was crazy—way bigger than what I expected—and with a fully sold out arena, wasted Estonian’s and Catfish on the mic, it was bound to be good. Josh Harrington won the high Air comp with 13.8ft out of a 10ft quarter...WTF.
He also proceeded to tear the Wessell-designed course a new asshole and won the contest too. Right near the end of the his run he looped out on a double b-spin alley-oop over a hip and dislocated jaw...that guy can ride a bike. Chase Hawk got second by making riding look as fun as I've ever seen and using the whole course...all with taking but one foot off his whole run and running no pegs or brakes. Mirra got third with a clicked turndown flair, flair whip and a bunch of other things I don't understand. Danny T-whipped down a 6 set to flat and you couldn't even hear him land. Joe blasted 2ft out of a 16ft vert wall, Aaron Ross did feeble grinds to T-whip so easy it looked like if he sneezed he'd do a tailwhip. Ronnie Surridge does good 360's. Sergio rode the whole place both ways like only Sergio could...and with a smile on his face.
There were parties every night and the guy to girl ratio had to be 1-2. Everybody speaks English, good food doesn't cost as much as it does here and 90% of the country has free wireless. Summer in Estonia must be amazing with much more agreeable temps and the sun only going down for a few hours.
Cheers to Risto Kalmre for putting on one hell of a contest…hopefully see you next year.

Sorry for being "MIA" like you said in the news before...
Not much new going on, just the usual craziness around the holidays. A couple weeks ago me, Brian Vowell, Andy Kent and Dan Brindle drove out to Ohio for a long weekend. It was my first weekend on my new Colony. Shit is pretty sweet. My frame and fork together weigh almost less than my MacNeil frame did. And I just got one of those new KHE hubs that I can't wait to get laced up. It looks proper and isn't really heavy at all. X-Mas was so much fun with Thompson... he's the hit of the party everywhere we went... opening his own gifts, singin' songs, playin' catch.... Patie and I weren't going to get each other anything for Christmas but I went ahead and got her a couple presents anyway. I'm no dummy, I know what's good for me! Besides, one of the presents was from Victoria's Secret, so it's kind of like a present to myself anyway!
Dan and I are heading down to 4 seasons later this week. Clint really needs some photos for a colony ad right away and I've got a banger in mind that I've been dying to do. The rest of the month I'm just going to be riding around here getting ready for that big comp in Australia at the end of January. I guess there's a proper mini ramp comp so I'm kind of excited about that. Osato and Clint will be there so it'll be like old times at the world's. After that comp, me, clint, osato and the rest of the Colony team are doing a two week trip through New Zealand where we'll end up at the X-Air comp that I missed last year because of my knee... needless to say I'm pretty excited!
I've never been to New Zealand and a two week road trip would be a great way to see the place. Kachinsky hasn't stopped talking about it since the last time he went. I threw in a couple pics from us at the packer game and what not. Hope you had a good holiday. Don't work too hard.
Oh yeah, since Chad is Thompson's Godfather he sent him a Christmas present consisting of a mini football and a youth large jock-strap! Too funny.

PRODEO-ZUMIEZ 100K
Posted by: Mike Escamilla | Friday, January 12, 2007I just got back from the Zumiez 100k in Keystone, Colorado. Its an event for employees of Zumiez shops. They send every employee who sells a 100k worth of product a year to an awesome party. It was the coolest thing I have been to in a long time. So many pros and Industry big wigs show up to greet the kids and hang out. Every one always laughs at the faces I make when I shoot photos and that I only have a couple of them so this time I thought I would show you those faces……over and over again. etnies and Hurley helped me out while I was there and I had a great time. Here are some Photos of the Party. It was a Prodeo.

etnies Pinball?
Posted by: Brink | Wednesday, January 10, 2007Sent in by a thoughtful and loyal fan with her own Sheckler website, Kari, this pinball game has some etnies logo action goin' on! We had nothing to do with it, but pretty random, huh? Is pinball the next "extreme" sport?
Homemade!
Posted by: Brink | Wednesday, January 10, 2007This guy takes the ME (My etnies) Custom Shoe Builder idea to a whole new level! Obviously a serious etnies lover! Smart too, looks like he gave himself his own pro model etnies! We like all you creative entreprenuers out there! Keep it up!
Ahh, The Holiday's with Brian Kachinsky
Posted by: Brian Kachinsky | Tuesday, January 9, 2007
Wow, it definitely was a good end to the year despite having a bum wheel (acl). I moved, saw the Packers at Lambeau, turned 25, ate a wheel of cheese, got a new license and have been off crutches all in a matter of weeks!
First and foremost, I might have seen Brett Favre’s last game ever at Lambeau. I hope that its not, but ya just never know these days. I went to the Ultimate Tailgate at Brett Favre’s steakhouse before crutching through the crowds and rain to see the greatest football team EVER. We had to bundle up pretty good for this one but apparently not everyone thought that multiple shirts (or any shirts at all) were a good idea. It’s pretty amazing that sights like this don’t even really turn heads. It's standard procedure to look as ridiculous as you can. I love it.
Christmas followed a few days later in which the highlights were massive Egg Nog consumption and good ol’ family time. My favorite gift was a box (given by my girlfriend’s brother) which included a fake mustache, a bottle of scotch and a whole wheel of cheese! (any and all Anchorman fans can appreciate that). Thanks Sean!
I have made the move from Wisconsin to Chicago and will be continuing my physical therapy down here in the Windy City. I’ve always been psyched on the city and am exited to get to know it more over the next few months. I moved down just in time to celebrate my 25th birthday on New Years Eve. Epic dude…epic. HA
Back to the grind of physical therapy, lots of exercise bike, large rubber bands, milk, protein shakes, legal steroids, and spandex (Ok maybe not the last three). But I do get my leg electrocuted after every therapy session…
Happy 2007 everyone!!!
-Brian

etnies BMX on RipTV
Posted by: Cropley | Friday, January 5, 2007Some of the etnies BMX team, including Dustin Guenther, John Heaton and Morgan Wade, raided the RipTV studio, talked some shit and pretty much owned the show! Check it out... good stuff! Did you know Heaton nair's his ass!?!?
A Very Merry Dustin Guenther Holiday!
Posted by: Dustin Guenther | Thursday, January 4, 2007I just wanted to drop a line again....merry friggin' Christmas. This year Christmas was great; I took it off. I didn't buy presents for anyone and had the opportunity to look at the general public frantically scramble around to find that perfect shitty present that only costs $20. For Christmas being a time of giving I saw a lot of pissy people and even saw a lady get out of her car and yell at 2 old guys who had just fingered her cause they cut her off......hilarious.
Anyway, now it's on to New Years and it looks like I'm going to a rodeo followed by a country concert....file it under something I've never done. In Mid January it looks like I might be able to go to the Simpel Session in Estonia where early December consisted of shooting an interview in Vancouver with Ben Crockett from BMX Plus. We ran into a lot of rain, which really isn't all that surprising, so we shot a lot of stuff in the Igloo. Something I kinda wanted to stay away from but....the weather's gonna be what the weather's gonna be.
Other than that, my truck is back in the shop through no fault of my own. If you know of a good mechanic anywhere please send me his number. It seems every mechanic I've ever come across is shady in one way or another. Anyway, enough of me bitching. I hope things are well with everyone and old man winter has been kind to ya.
Take care and I'll talk at you soon,
Dustin
