Dustin Guenther Blog update!

Posted by: Brink | Friday, June 29, 2007

dustintail

Okay, so I guess some things have changed, but at the same time... nah, actually things have changed for me. I quit my bike sponsor a few months ago and made the inevitable decision to go back to school. I decided it wasn't fair to my current sponsors to try to ride, travel and go to school full time. So I told them just that and left the decision to keep me as a rider, in their hands. I told myself that as long as I was straight-up with everybody, that, at the end of the day, it'd be the wiser choice. I rode for etnies Canada for five years before falling asleep and thinking “a shoe is a shoe” and riding for a different company for a year and a half. When I woke up I was fortunate enough to be welcomed back to the etnies family, which is where I will be until I feel I'm just not gettin' sideways on my bike anymore.

I've been pro for 9 years and every decision in my life, before and during that time, has been to explore and experience all with my bike. I've met some assholes, as well as some truly unique people. I've been to shithole towns and topless beaches in the south of France. I know I'm not the most recognized guy out there and I probably won't try jumping the Grand Canyon anytime soon.

I hope I don't sound arrogant by writing this, but from my perspective, it's nice to know that there are companies out there actually give a shit about the riders that are and aren't winning every comp, getting every cover and the most coverage. Those are the ones that aren't gonna jump ship when the waters get a little rough. With that said, many thanks to anyone reading this as well as etnies, Primo, Square One, Ten Pack Distribution and We, The People, for supporting the riders, both the everyday ones and the rock stars for keeping our “sport” as cool as it is. Cheers! See you at Hastings.

Dustin

Stephen Murray Fund

Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Stephen Murray is a BMX Athlete that could use help from the BMX community. Stephen is a professional dirt jumper that is well known for his amazing tricks like double back flips, 360 back flips, turndown back flips and so much more.

Stephen Murray came to the United States from New Castle Great Britain over 10 years ago with a dream of riding with the best athletes in the sport. He came over here originally as a BMX racer but quickly took to Dirt Jumping and Freestyle in the scene of Huntington Beach and Sheep Hills.

2001 and 2002 marked the biggest year for Stephen Murray of his career. He won the Gold Medal in Dirt Jumping at X Games and back to back wins at the Gravity Games, the two biggest contests at the time.

Stephen is quoted on his own riding style, “I go 110%, go big and send it!”

On Friday June 22nd at the AST Dew Tour BMX Dirt Finals in Baltimore, MD, Stephen Murray took a horrific fall on the final set of the dirt section while sending a double back flip. Stephen has received career ending injuries to his spinal cord and vertebrae.

Unlike the NFL or other major professional sports which have unions that provide funds to athletes who are injured, BMX has nothing like this. BMX however is much more like a family than any other sport. Now is the time we need to reach out and support one of our family members like never before.

The injuries that Stephen sustained are no doubt going to affect him for a life time. Medical bills alone can reach astronomical dollar amounts. As a BMX community we have the power to help him. Stephen is a young 27 years old and is the financial provider for a wife and two young children.

This message has the potential to reach millions. Even if you are only able to donate $1 if we did it all together we can accomplish a great deal. This is for real, this is an opportunity to help out one of the most loved riders in our sport. Please find it in your hearts to contribute any dollar amount that you can, and say a prayer for Stephen Murray and his family in this difficult time.

Here are three ways you can contribute:
Email StephenMurrayFund@hotmail.com with the dollar amount you would like to contribute. You will then receive an email back with the invoice that leads you directly to a Pay Pal Secure account where you can pay by credit card or bank account number.

Mail a check payable to Stephen Murray Family Fund:
92 Corporate Park Ste. C #171

Make a bank deposit or wire funds directly to:
Stephen Murray Family Fund
Bank of America
4500 Barranca Parkway

Leaving the Right Soleprint

For Immediate Release – June 12, 2007

Lake Forest, Calif. – Driven by his vision and spirit for a company successful on the balance sheet, the streets, the slopes, the ocean and ultimately on our amazing planet, Pierre Andre Senizergues embodies the genuine qualities as a true leader by revolutionizing the future of action sports and the way Sole Technology does business. For his environmental endeavors, Senizergues was honored on June 9 at the 11th Annual Global Green USA and Green Cross International Millennium Awards as this year’s recipient of the Corporate Environmental Leadership Award. As CEO and founder of Sole Technology, parent company to top action sports brands etnies, éS, Emerica, Altamont and ThirtyTwo, Senizergues has set a positive example for his peers in business and media by greening his company and speaking out about the need to take action to protect the environment and leaving the right footprint, or in Pierre’s case, soleprint.

In 2002, under the leadership of Senizergues, Sole Technology began making changes to protect the environment in their business practices. Recently, Sole Technology added to its list the conversion to waterless urinals at its headquarters to promote water conservation. Saving up to 250,000 gallons of water each year, that’s equivalent to approximately an Olympic size swimming pool, three million cups of coffee, and what matters most to the action sports industry, two and a half million bottles of beer.

In addition to Senizergues’ vision and full commitment to corporate responsibility other initiatives include the installation of 616 solar panels, the conversion to water-based cement manufacturing, company-wide recycling efforts, the addition of the first-ever environmental affairs manager and the launch of a sustainable footwear and apparel collection, the etnies SEED Project. Senizergues has also recently teamed up with Leonardo Dicaprio and Tree Media as executive producer for the upcoming and highly-anticipated documentary, THE 11th HOUR, set to open in theaters in fall 2007. Senizergues supports the film in hopes to create awareness and discussion around the issues we are facing and the environmental movement to motivate people to reduce the size of footprint they leave behind on our planet and for future generations.

Global Green USA was founded by former president Mikhail Gorbachev and serves as a national environmental organization addressing and creating a new approach to solving the world's most pressing environmental challenges by reconnecting humanity to the environment. Senizergues’ name is added to a prestigious list of past Millennium Award recipients like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ted Turner, Joan Bavaria, Paul Hawken, Gary Hirshberg, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Suzuki, Winona LaDuke, Ray Anderson, and many more outstanding leaders.

“I’m honored personally and professionally to recognize a leader like Pierre that understands the important connection between humankind and the environment,” says Matt Peterson, CEO of Global Green. “Global Green recognizes those unique leaders who embody our mission and are an inspiration to others.”

Known for pioneering technological advances in skateboard footwear, Pierre Andre Senizergues and Sole Technology have stayed true to its skateboarding roots while pushing the envelope as a corporate leader of sustainability in the industry and will continue its efforts in doing the right thing. Check out Pierre’s award presentation.

A Baby Named etnie!?!!

Posted by: Brink | Friday, June 8, 2007

etkid

Got this email from a woman named Keeley Cruickshanks a few weeks ago! She named her daughter Etnie and sent us some pix!

I named my daughter Etnie, as my fiancé is a sponsored rider, not by etnies, but we both loved the word and thought it would make a good name for our baby girl who is now 9 months old. In Ireland it means "a saint" after Saint Etienne. "Etnie" is the female version. I am at the moment trying to get Etnie in to baby modeling so if u ever need a baby model for etnies clothing in catalogs or something just holla'. We would be more than happy to represent etnies clothing. Thanks!

Taj Is Busy Making Tools!

Ever see one of those DK Random wrenches? I think they are such a cool idea, and so I decided to make something similar on my own. A tool for traveling that would include all the tools I need for my bike.

etnies blog image

I started with an old fork and the tools I wanted to include.

'Hi, Odyssey, I'd like to warranty a pair of forks.
"Hi, Odyssey, I'd like to warranty a pair of forks.'
Next I chopped off the steer tube of the forks to act as the body of my tool.

etnies blog image

Then I chopped up some tools to be welded on to my tool. After a little prep work I took all the parts to my friend Blaze who builds the Liquor Bikes made here in Austin.

This is a rough idea of what it would like.

He welded on my bits and parts with the utmost perfection.

etnies blog imageNext I carefully spray painted it and then picked it up and ruined the paint because it was wet.

etnies blog image

If you check the picture above you'll see that it has a deep socket 17mm for pegs, and inside it has a 8mm, 6mm, 5mm, and 4mm allen sockets which are all the allen wrench sizes on my bike, and a Peregrine spoke wrench. Also welded on the outside is the adjustable wrench which works as a pedal wrench and as a wrench for brake adjustments. Basically every tool I need while traveling all in one Vision Street Wear hip pack-sized unit.
