Ruben In RipZinger!
Posted by: Alex | Wednesday, October 29, 2008Ruben got a package...
It was a super cool surprise when I found this book in the mail coming from Japan...

This photographer was doing a tour in CA to edit this skate culture book. He started riding bmx and knew me very well. By coincidence, he was there visiting and got to shoot this picture while I was shooting for Grounded... and he used it for his book!

I'm very stoked about it. People like the skater Rick McCrank are in this book; it's all about traveling in a skate culture atsmosphere and he put a picture of me riding! It's so crazy! He says that lots of people have cool things to say about it. I think it is one the best career souvenirs that I have. Stussy made this book and you can find more info on the book at the site Stussy.com. Also there's a little video explaining the project ...
I think books like this are really cool ... etnies should do one too! Will be awesome!
Talk to you soon!

Boo!
Here are some photos from a recent pumpkin carving party we had when A. Ross and D. Parrick were visiting Chicago.

Aaron's pumpkin wins style points by adding an "E" logo to the back of his smiling jack o' latern.

Parrick's was the scariest. Steve's was the most creative. Suzi won best improv with the imperfect pumpkin (aka: damaged canvas). Porter's was the devil's spawn. Mine had a uni-brow, a snaggle tooth and one ear (my signature since I'm the Van Gogh of pumpkin carving) or did Mike Tyson get a hold of my pumpkin? Do our pumpkins resemble ourselves? You be the judge....
Redbull Trick or Treat in Rochester was fun as well with Aaron, Myself and KC Badger. Hamlin was there as well but he was riding the course too fast to catch up with him for a picture. Happy Halloween Everyone!

Mike Aitken Benefit Jam!
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, October 23, 2008Mike Aitken needs our help!

Mike Aitken is a Professional BMX rider in need of our help. Mike is an icon in the sport of BMX and is someone who rides with incredible style and passion for the sport. He is also a proud husband and father.
Recently Mike Aitken was in a severe BMX accident. He has severe head trauma. the medical bills will be enormous. Mike is a professional rider and in his line of work, he is not eligible for health insurance. They claim he is "too high risk." Mike has contacted numerous insurance offices and has been denied by all. This is a time when we can pull together to make a huge difference in Mike's recovery. No amount is too small and if everyone pulls together and offers a little bit we can make a dent in the medical bills to come. If you can not attend our benefit jam, you can still make a generous donation to Mike and his family and check for updates on his condition, by logging onto
Lou Calderon Uba: Ambassador!
Posted by: Alex | Wednesday, October 22, 2008Yesterday, etnies BMX rider Lou Calderon had lunch with Costa Rica's President Dr. Oscar Arias.
Lou was invited to the luncheon because of his involvement with the nonprofit organization "Un Mundo Sin Guerras" (World without Wars) and, also to discuss such initiatives as government investment in the building of public Skate/BMX parks and in the sponsorship of action sports athletes!
A few photos...
of Lou (rocking etnies) with President Arias and his with brother Rodrigo Arias (Minister of Presidency) during yesterday's lunch at Casa Presidencial
(Costa Rica's White House) in Zapote.
Thanks Lou for all the support and for being part of the ST family.

Javi Ortega Update!
Posted by: Alex | Tuesday, October 21, 2008Somewhere between Japan and Portugal, Javi Ortega dropped us a line...
... Just got back few days ago from Japan. I was there for a comp and a tour around Japan. The trip was pretty cool... lots of places, I was visting and riding all over. It was kind of a messed up trip because I didn't know I was going until the day before my flight! hehehehe funny!
I got first place at the contest... I was glad because the contest was the same day I got there... after the whole flight and after 8 hours by car! So more than one day of travel to get there! hehehe. Here are some pic's. A friend of mine from Japan is doing a lil' clip about the whole trip and I will send it to you as well.
Be safe! I am going tomorrow for another contest in Portugal... speak to you soon!
Javi

That's 4 In A Row!
Posted by: Alex | Monday, October 20, 2008Jamie Bestwick done did it! Our boy held on and won the 2008 BMX Vert Dew Cup!

That's right... not only did he take 1st place for the PlayStation Pro, Orlando; he took the whole damn thing. Jamie won 1st Place overall for a total of four (yes, FOUR!) Dew Cups... all in a row one year after the other. That's a pretty sweet roll he's on. And as if that weren't enough, Jamie also shares the joint honor of Athlete of the Year for Dew Tour 2008! Aw yeah...

Bestwick Holdin' On
Posted by: Alex | Friday, October 17, 2008Jamie Bestwick heads to this weekend's Dew Tour stop in 1st place. Orlando is the fifth and final stop of the season and Jamie's lead is small, but a lead nonetheless. Current second place points holder Chad Kagy will try to come between Jamie and his fourth Dew Cup, but I've got it on good authority that Jamie's not letting up. Stand by for updates on Jamie and the rest of the Dew Tour drama...
A Note From Adam Baker
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, October 16, 2008Adam Baker's feeling the pressure...
With less then a month to go for the deadline for the new S and M video “I want to Live,” the pressure is on. This last weekend I took a trip to Tucson with high hopes of finding some amazing stuff. The first day was a mess spending more time fixing flats and walking my bike then anything. That night was nice; one of my favorite bands, The Swim, was playing, so seeing them took the edge off the day. The next day was better. Found a fun wall ride and a crazy ledge.

Keep an eye out for “I want to Live”... it should be out in December and I am sure that Stricker will have a crazy part.
Have fun out there!
Andy Martinez Update
Posted by: Alex | Wednesday, October 15, 2008Yo yo. Whats happening? Just droppin' in with this little update...
I've been hurt due to an ankle injury for the past month, so I haven't been doin' much but watching old bike vids and eating fast food. But I should be back on my bike soon and I cant wait. Here's a photo my buddy Rick snaped before I rolled my ankle.

And one of me and my new gas saver with a bike rack (SWEET!).

'Til next time, peace.

ASEC's RAD: FREE Burritos!
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, October 9, 2008WHAT!! Free Chipotle burritos? That's how I roll...
Emergency Alert: FREE Burrito-FREE Burrito-FREE Burrito-FREE Burrito-FREE Burrito!!!
Tell your friends and spread the word... ASEC and Chipotle are trying to give away 100,000 free burritos in the State of California this Saturday.
Get RAD, B RAD, U R RAD, RAD enough to Roll!
Here's a great one for you; this Saturday, October 11th, ASEC is launching our inaugural “RAD" (Roll Anything Day). This is a holiday dedicated to leaving behind cars, motorcycles, busses or whatever gas guzzling, veggie oil burning, natural gas farting device you or your parents are using and going out on the town Rolling your Skateboard, Bike or what ever form of “Non-Motorized Transportation” you choose. Go out and explore your city, Parks or Mountains, hang out with your friends and family or go see how many spots you can hit or shops you can check out in a day.
Break a sweat, work up an appetite and Roll to any Chipotle in California between 11AM-3PM and get a FREE Burrito-FREE Burrito-FREE Burrito-FREE! If you have never checked out Chipotle before you need to, they make the tastiest Mexican Food I have ever had, no joke just ask Danny Way, Bob Burnquist or anyone else who grubs there all of the time (they pay, they are not sponsored). They are the most natural and environmentally responsible fast food chain in America and they use naturally raised chicken & pork, locally sourced & organic veggies and really care about the Planet. Oh Yeah, they are not owned by McDonalds (that is another story, they used to be an investor but have nothing to do with them now, it was a dream situation). So go out & Roll your butt to Chipotle to get a Free Burrito or Roll to your friend’s house to hang out, it doesn't matter where you go, just Roll.
Here's the link to find the Chipotle nearest to you: Chipotle Store Locator
Thank You for doing your part to create a better world, now get out & Roll!
Sincerely, Your ASEC Posse Bob Burnquist, Danny Way, Jen O'Brien, Geoff Rowley, Rob Machado, Rochelle Ballard, Greg Lutzka, Bucky Lasek, Amy Caron, Jamie Bestwick, Mat Hoffman, Kevin Robinson, Cara Beth Burnside, Daniel Dhers, Forrest Shearer, Chanelle Sladics, Vanessa Torres, Frank Scura & thousands of other riders & people who love to ride, roll and eat FREE BURRITO'S.
Bestwick Wins Cincinnati
Posted by: Alex | Monday, October 6, 2008Jamie Bestwick killed it yesterday at the Cincinnati stop of the Action Sports World Tour. I wasn't there but am told that "... an absolutely huge run complete with the biggest alley-oop tailwhip this side of 2007 put him at the top of the podium once again." I, of course, have no doubt.

Ruben In Malaga
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, October 2, 2008Ruben Alcantara's back in Malaga!
I just got to Malaga a little while ago... after the whole summer and it's been really good. One of the spots that we have is this little tranny inside an abandoned house. It was really fun to ride but we used to hit the roof... but now the wood roof is gone and you can go a few feet higher and it's so much fun.

Then we had a lot of rain and we got to fix the trails for the fall and winter. With some modifications this year, it's better than it's ever been. Here are some picks of Javi, Perico and me riding the first session ... so fun! Also, Perico and me are leaving tomorrow to Russia for a comp and a tour there. I hope we are lucky with the weather...
I'll send you some more pics from there!

Out Of Commission
Posted by: Alex | Thursday, October 2, 2008etnies UK rider Anthony Watkins is out of commission... Thanks to a broken fibia, ankle and some sort of ligament injury, he'll be missing out on the Orlando stop of the Dew Tour. Kind of a bummer...
Get better, Anthony!
