Freimuth In Cleveland

by: Alex | Thursday, September 4, 2008

Dave Freimuth fills us in on the latest...

On my recent trip to Florida with the Albe's guys, Chad Kagy made a call to DMC and hooked me up judging the Cleveland Dew Tour. I was a little nervous at first... judging can be a big job especially when there's 10's of thousands of dollars on the line and dudes fighting for Year End points. But when all was said and done it was one of the best jobs I've ever had. And there's definitely nothing wrong with having the best seat in the house for some of the best BMX riding in the world right now.

Probably the highlight for me was the Vert Comp. I don't get to see Jamie ride a vert ramp in person very often, so when I do it's always a treat. And the fact that Kagy has been killing it lately kinda puts a fire under Jamie's butt and it shows. Portland was one of the most exciting vert comps I've been to in my life. I can't count how many times in the last few years I've seen Jamie turn his second run into a victory lap after already locking down the win with his first run... So seeing him have to throw down for his second run in both Cleveland and Portland was amazing. In Portland Chad pulled out the win, but I can only imagine what Jamie's last run would have been if he had managed to stay on his bike the entire time. My hats off to those two for pushing vert and putting me on the edge of my seat comp after comp.

Here's a couple pics I took from the last two stops of Dew Tour... My favorite being the one of Catfish trying to hit his head on the ceiling of an elevator when it first starts to drop... he didn't and I won ten bucks, which disappeared quick when we got to Sassy's! Good times. Thanks DMC! And I promise to ride Park in one of the Open's next year!

Oh yeah, me, Patie, and Thompson went to Packers family night a couple weeks ago and got rained on and didn't care... man, I can't wait for NFL football. GO PACK GO!

ratty fest news with Dave

Brian Hunt
Brian Hunt

Hey guys,
We did well at Ratty...me, Quinn, Brian Hunt, and some Greg kid, friend of Quinn's that's really good, were on a team. We all pulled some shit but we all wrecked a few times. Whitesnake's group won. Whitesnake really did some remarkable stuff...a huge alleyoop downside whip transfer, and a 360 double downside whip over the box. Like Alistair's thing but with another whip. It looked amazing.

Quinn Semling

The really good local kid that works at 4 seasons (Little John) won the bowl jam. I think either Little John or Brian Hunt could have won it. John went fast and huge, and Brian blasted nearly 10 ft out of the deep end. Mark Potozny did a 5ft high abubaca out of an 8 foot vert quarter. Quinn barspun to fuf the big wall behind the mini. There was almost as much action in the parking lot as inside the park it seemed. Catfish was amazing on the mic as usual and Jeff K's girlfriend did some sweet freestyle.

Just thought I'd get you an update from the tundra. My trip with the Colony team to Australia/New Zealand was amazing. I flew straight into Sydney for the Australian BMX Games. I'd have more than a few complaints about the comp, but after I ended up with 3rd in mini I really couldn't remember what any of them were! They did have one of the most remarkable trophies I've ever seen. It was for the guy that pretty much gave'r the entire weekend. It was made up of 4 bmx frames, misc. sprockets, 4 foot long candles, and a gigantic wolf's head...so crazy.

Vans team poster...hahah!

At the after party for the comp, Haimona from NZ found this poster announcing the upcoming Vans tour! Hilarious.

We had a couple days off in Sydney before we flew over to New Zealand for an 8 day road trip, so we snuck down to Bondi beach for sun and beverages...Bondi is probably my most favorite place on the planet.

On Wednesday we caught our flight over to NZ and drove straight to the docks in Wellington to catch our ferry over to the South island. We spent the next week or so rambling around the South island camping, riding, eating, drinking, driving... etc. Mike from Triple Six Distribution made some calls and got us into the Red Bull house in Queenstown for 3 days, which was too freakin' sweet! We went from camping in cabins to staying in a decked out house with one of the best views I've ever seen in my life (see top photo!).

On our way back up to Wellington for the X-Air comp we stopped and did the tourist thing. The X-Air comp pretty much lived up to everything I had been hearing about for the last 4 or 5 years now...great city, sweet hotel, huge street course and a monster pro turnout. Not to mention proper after parties, bikini comps, tons of free sausage, and all the free drink tickets your pockets could handle, just the way we like it.

The street comp was off the hook as I'm sure you already know. My group ended up doing pretty well. Spinner did the 1080, Mirra and Diogo had some of the best runs I've ever seen, Osato did a tooth over and back on a huge railing, and Morgan took himself out on the dirt jumps after winning street practice hands down.

The trip home was on of the roughest ones I've ever had. All the Absinthe shots that Mirra bought the night before didn't help and neither did the snow storm that shut down the entire east coast. 3 weeks away from home will really make you appreciate it even in a foot of snow and zero degree weather. I still don't know what Cow Drippings are!

I threw in a photo of Thompson at his swimming class... I caught him checking out his gut in the mirror, he must have gotten that from daddy!

thanks Clint for the trip!

Freimuth's Ohio Trip

by: Dave Freimuth | Tuesday, January 30, 2007

Dave Freimuth
Me, a nosepick from the subrail into the little quarter at Chenga 2.

John...
I nosepicked the face of the 2x6 probably 6 times, and then when I actually tried to tooth it I missed twice, stuck it once but jumped off, and then pulled it twice in a row. I'm stoked; it's probably one of the best toothpicks I've ever done. I've only done a couple that high, but never precision like that.

Here's a couple photos...they were for the UGP site since they gave me some gas money for our Ohio trip, but I figured you could put 'em up if you like. -Dave

An "entertainer" at one of the fine Ohio drinkin' holes we visited--this is a self-portrait by the way.
Catfish saw this tow truck and demanded i take his picture...I call it "jesusfish."

Dave Freimuth. yo..happy new year.Blog

by: Dave Freimuth | Tuesday, January 16, 2007

Sorry for being "MIA" like you said in the news before...

Not much new going on, just the usual craziness around the holidays. A couple weeks ago me, Brian Vowell, Andy Kent and Dan Brindle drove out to Ohio for a long weekend. It was my first weekend on my new Colony. Shit is pretty sweet. My frame and fork together weigh almost less than my MacNeil frame did. And I just got one of those new KHE hubs that I can't wait to get laced up. It looks proper and isn't really heavy at all. X-Mas was so much fun with Thompson... he's the hit of the party everywhere we went... opening his own gifts, singin' songs, playin' catch.... Patie and I weren't going to get each other anything for Christmas but I went ahead and got her a couple presents anyway. I'm no dummy, I know what's good for me! Besides, one of the presents was from Victoria's Secret, so it's kind of like a present to myself anyway!

Dan and I are heading down to 4 seasons later this week. Clint really needs some photos for a colony ad right away and I've got a banger in mind that I've been dying to do. The rest of the month I'm just going to be riding around here getting ready for that big comp in Australia at the end of January. I guess there's a proper mini ramp comp so I'm kind of excited about that. Osato and Clint will be there so it'll be like old times at the world's. After that comp, me, clint, osato and the rest of the Colony team are doing a two week trip through New Zealand where we'll end up at the X-Air comp that I missed last year because of my knee... needless to say I'm pretty excited!

I've never been to New Zealand and a two week road trip would be a great way to see the place. Kachinsky hasn't stopped talking about it since the last time he went. I threw in a couple pics from us at the packer game and what not. Hope you had a good holiday. Don't work too hard.

Oh yeah, since Chad is Thompson's Godfather he sent him a Christmas present consisting of a mini football and a youth large jock-strap! Too funny.
